Billy Elliot sure is one ugly duckling. Clambering to escape a prison of masculinity wardened by an overbearing father, Billy uses dance as a means of escape and a bludgeon against the prison created by his blue collar mining town. Sure, sure, he graduates to swan summa cum laude. But what’s undeniably compelling is the burgeoning energy and untethered emotion the entire cast crams into their combined performance.
